Pregnancy Care

Pregnancy, especially for first-time mother- can mark the beginning of a new chapter and arguably the biggest change for not only the pregnant mothers-to-be but also their families. This period is often filled with a mix of anxiety, anticipation for the arrival of the new member, and profound bodily changes affecting the mother’s body as the baby starts, an continues,  to develop within the womb. The process from fertilization till childbirth is characterized by a multitude of physical, emotional, and hormonal changes affecting the pregnant lady.

From the amazing moment of finally discovering that you’re pregnant – especially if and your partner have been trying for a while to have baby-  to hearing the sound of the heartbeat of your unborn child on the ultrasound machine at your doctor’s office, each stage of pregnancy can bring its own joys, challenges, and milestones.

As you start on the journey of pregnancy, you’ll often need support – and not just physically. Rest assured that you’re not alone. You can always reach out to your family doctor or  OBGYN with any question you might have about your pregnancy or baby. Family members and friends can also offer valuable guidance based off their own experiences, encouragement, and emotional support along the way.

The Pregnancy care service, part of the home care services provided by JPR Home Health Care, can offer invaluable support during this special time of your life. Our team of doctors, caregivers, and DHA-licensed nurses & midwives provides essential support both during pregnancy and even after delivery. What happens to a mother’s body during pregnancy?

Going through pregnancy is a unique, and at times challenging, journey during which numerous physiological and psychological changes affect a woman’s body, all aimed at supporting the growth and development of the newly formed fetus- or fetuses, in case of multiple pregnancies. These changes are vital both for the mother body’s ability to keep up with the demands of this period, and for the baby’s intrauterine growth and development.

Understanding these transformations can help expectant mothers better cope with them. Below are some of the most common bodily changes that occur during pregnancy along with how they occur:

Cardiovascular Changes:  During pregnancy, the volume of blood that is circulating in the body increases exponentially compared to its pre-pregnancy levels. This change in volume is thought to be to support the growing needs of the developing fetus, and also in anticipation of the inevitable blood loss during childbirth. As a result of the increase in volume, the mother’s heart works harder to pump this increased volume, leading to a slight elevation in the mother-to-be’s heart rate.

Respiratory Changes:  As the uterus grows bigger to accommodate the growing baby, the diaphragm, which is the primary muscle of breathing, is pushed upwards into the chest leading to a slight increase in the work of breathing. There are also other effects on the respiratory system, with most changes occurring to accommodate the increased oxygen needs of the mother and the baby.

Endocrine Changes: Hormones play a big role in pregnancy, regulating various physiological processes to support gestation and fetal development. Various key hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), tend to surge to help maintain the pregnancy and prepare the mother’s body for the subsequent childbirth.

Gastrointestinal Changes:  Pregnancy affects all the body systems, and the digestive tract is no exception. Future mothers can experience alterations in appetite – some experience frequent episodes of morning nausea- digestion, and nutrient absorption. Many women may experience severe nausea, vomiting, and food aversions during the first trimester that can serve enough to warrant a hospital admission at times. As pregnancy progresses, some women also experience other GI-related symptoms like heartburn, indigestion, and constipation.

Renal Changes: The kidneys undergo significant changes during pregnancy to keep up with the increased metabolic demands of the pregnant lady, as well as to help eliminate toxins and byproducts ts from the maternal and fetal circulations..

Musculoskeletal Changes: Pregnancy exerts increased strain on a woman’s musculoskeletal system. As the uterus grows, the inevitable weight gain might lead the mother to experience some postural changes, and at times also back pain, and pelvic instability as well.

What is prenatal home care?

Prenatal care is a form of medical support and care given to expectant mothers. This helps in ensuring that the mother goes through a healthy pregnancy while promoting her wellbeing as well as that of her developing baby.

The following are some of the services offered under prenatal care:

Regular Doctor’s Visits: In your scheduled prenatal visits, ideally conducted by OBGYN, your healthcare provider will consider your general wellness, evaluate fetal growth and development and record physical examination and test findings such as blood pressure, weight and baby’s heart rate hence making it possible to detect any abnormal results early enough for appropriate interventions.

Screenings and Tests: Prenatal care involves various screenings and tests that help determine how healthy the pregnant individual is along with his or her unborn child. This includes things like blood tests for anemia and abnormal blood sugar levels to give you a few examples. In the former, simple nutritional supplements will be prescribed, while the later requires more of a complex plan.

Nutrition and exercise: For the mother-to- be to stay in top shape during this unique period of her life, a healthy diet along with an appropriate level of physical activity, are essential for her health and that of your baby. JPR Home Health Care’s home nursing services in Dubai & Abu Dhabi include pregnancy advice and recommendations by expert doctors, midwives &  nurses to help you maintain a smooth and easy pregnancy throughout.

Education and Counseling: Worried about what to expect during labor and delivery?   Patient education and counseling is an integral part of proper prenatal care. You should also be informed about what to expect on labor and delivery, which you’ll help to decrease your levels of anxiety during the day, along with information about breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and newborn care practices.
